OUR BRAVE JOURNEY

2018

First BRAVE Road Trips across borders & oceans, connecting girls from South Africa, Tanzania, and the US to inspire political participation and advocate for girls. BRAVE partners with Singita to host first-ever all-woman run across Serengeti to empower and support girl leaders.

2017

First BRAVE girls graduate high school! BRAVE writes weekly column for the Cape Times. BRAVE speaks at Cons Lab in Cape Town, challenging conservationists to provide more opportunities for girls. Black Mambas inspire girls at 2nd annual BRAVE awards dinner.

2016

BRAVE Rock Girl wins With and For Girls Award, one of only 20 girl-led organisations across the world to receive this honour. First BRAVE Awards dinner hosted by GUILD helps purchase our BRAVE mobile studio. Third Road Trip to North West Province and fourth to Cederberg.  BRAVE advocacy leads to construction of brand new school for 800 students.

2015

First BRAVE Rock Girl Road Trip rescues 18 girls from gang war and takes them thousands of kilometres to Eastern Cape to document lives of girls.  BRAVE Rock Girl partners with Open Society Foundation & Children’s Radio Foundation to create radio programming advocating for safer communities for girls, & everyone.

2014-2012

BRAVE reaches 500+ girls through Rock Girl workshops, holiday camps & weekend programs. Safe Spaces Campaign installs 58 public benches around South Africa.  BRAVE interviews UN Women head Phumzile Ngcuka-Mlambo.  BRAVE hosts first-ever Family Portrait Day in Manenberg.

2011

BRAVE Rock Girl founded at Red River Primary School by 10 year old girls who want to make their school & community safer. First Safe Space bench designed and installed at the school & showcased at Design Indaba Expo 2011. First fundraiser helps install another five Safe Space benches.
