BRAVE ROADTRIPS

Across Africa, you hear about girls on the move. Usually, it is stories of girls being trafficked, fleeing war, escaping child marriage, surviving violence. Girls are rarely the storytellers. BRAVE is changing that.

WE ARE BRAVE

BRAVE takes girls on the road to meet their sisters across Africa and from around the world. Girls between the ages of 14-18 are trained as youth reporters and photographers, then hit the road, traveling thousands of kilometers to interview their peers far off the beaten track, share their stories, explore their own country, and advocate for solutions to common challenges.

WANT TO ROADTRIP WITH US?

Go on a life changing cross-Atlantic Road Trip in 2018 to track leopards and learn about the role of women and girls in the struggles for equality in South Africa and the US.

Or join us to meet girls living on the borders of conservation areas in northern Kenya in 2019 to help end child marriage and FGM, while protecting endangered elephants. Each year, BRAVE takes girls on trips that impact their lives and the lives of others.

If you are a girl leader between the ages of 14 -18, are passionate about the health, education, safety, and economic empowerment of girls, love adventure and justice, then you may qualify for a BRAVE Road Trip.

WHAT HAPPENS ON A ROAD TRIP?

On Road Trips, girls share their own stories, opening up about the challenges that they face in their home communities, and documenting other girls’ experiences.

The girls then share ideas on how to overcome these challenges, from taking self defense courses to creating girl-led groups to using social media to demand change to acting as human rights observers in their own communities.  They return home to advocate for themselves and others.

On these trips, girls become modern-day explorers, leaving gang-ridden neighbourhoods and underserved communities behind for the first time. They track elephants, sleep under the stars while baboons howl, surf down sand dunes, and swim in icy rivers.  They push their bodies and their minds to do more than they have ever done before.

But most importantly, these trips widen the circle of sisterhood.  The BRAVE Road Trips create opportunities for girls across South Africa, and the world, to reach their full potential.
